A Sektra tag is a Gmail label, an Outlook category or an IMAP folder, kept in step both ways when the inbox's sync toggle is on. Apply a tag in Sektra and the label appears in Gmail within seconds; apply a label in Gmail and the tag appears in Sektra on the next sync.
What a tag maps to
- Gmail: a label, nested labels included. Sektra tracks the label by Gmail's id, so a label renamed in Gmail stays the same tag.
- Outlook: a category. Categories are flat, so Sektra tags on an Outlook inbox have no nesting. Colors follow Outlook's palette.
- IMAP: a folder, nested folders included. Applying a tag files a copy of the conversation in that folder; removing it takes the copy out. Sent, Drafts, Trash and Archive are not tags.
- WhatsApp: nothing to sync to. Tags stay inside Sektra.
Which direction changes travel
The toggle Sync other events from Sektra to Gmail (or Outlook, or your mail server) is in the inbox's Preferences. It controls stars or flags, tags and read state from Sektra back to the mailbox. Changes made in the mailbox always flow into Sektra. Spam and trash are never imported, so a label applied in Gmail's spam folder is not seen.
Labels created outside Sektra
A label applied to a message in Gmail arrives with that message. A label created in Gmail and not yet applied to anything appears on the next daily sync. To bring it in at once, press the sync button on the inbox's Connection card in Settings, Inboxes. The button is named for the provider's own word, such as Sync labels on Gmail.
Editing tags from Sektra
Settings, then Inboxes, then the inbox, has a Tags card. From there you create a tag with a parent and a color, rename it inline and change its color. You can also move it under another tag or to the top level, add a sub-tag, and delete it. Deleting a tag removes it from every conversation and from the mailbox. Applying and removing tags on conversations needs write access; editing the tag tree needs manage rights on the inbox.
Auto-tagging
The Auto-tagging card on the same page holds Lens rules. Lens, the relationship panel beside every thread, also tags new conversations that match the examples you give it. Pick a tag, show one example, and add Not like this examples to sharpen it. The number of rules per inbox depends on the plan.
