How to connect Gmail or Google Workspace to Sektra

Connect a Gmail or Google Workspace mailbox through Google sign-in, choose shared or personal, pick the read state, and set what syncs back.

A Gmail or Google Workspace mailbox connects through Google sign-in. Sektra never sees the Google password, and the grant can be revoked from the Google account at any time. Connecting takes a few minutes; the history import then runs in the background.

  1. Start the connection

Go to Settings, then Inboxes, and choose Connect an inbox. Pick Google Workspace.

  2. Choose the inbox type

Shared means everyone you give access to works it together. Personal is only you, one per seat. A personal inbox skips the read state question.

  3. Choose the read state

For a shared inbox, Shared means read by one teammate is read for all, and in Gmail. Separate gives each teammate their own read state; Gmail is marked unread only once nobody on the team still has it read. This cannot be changed after the inbox is connected.

  4. Name it and enter the address

Give the inbox a name your team recognizes, such as Support or Billing, and type the Gmail address. The Google account you sign in with has to match this address.

  5. Decide what to import and sync

Import earlier emails brings in existing mail so search and the analysis work from day one. Archive imported emails lands that history in Archived instead of the inbox. Three toggles decide whether archiving, trash, and everything else (stars, labels and read state) sync from Sektra back to Gmail.

  6. Sign in with Google

Sektra sends you to Google. Approve the request and you return to Sektra with syncing started. New mail appears within seconds of arriving.

What Sektra asks Google for

One permission: to read, label and send mail in that mailbox, which the Gmail API calls modify access. Sektra does not ask for contacts, calendar, Drive or account settings. Calendar is a separate connection with its own permission, described in How to connect your calendar.

What is imported

The newest 50,000 emails of the inbox, on every plan. Spam, trash and drafts are not imported. How many of those conversations the AI reads for summaries and the memory layer depends on the plan; the rest stays searchable by keyword. Imported mail keeps Gmail's read state for the people who have access at connect time.

Gmail labels

Gmail labels become Sektra tags, nested labels included. A tag applied in Sektra becomes a label in Gmail when the sync toggle is on, and a label applied in Gmail appears in Sektra. Details in How tags sync with Gmail labels and Outlook categories.

Contact support
Does Sektra store my Google password?

No. You sign in on Google's own page and Google hands Sektra a token for that mailbox. Sektra never sees the password, and you can revoke the token from your Google account's security settings.

Does connecting change anything in Gmail?

Not by itself. Mail stays in Gmail. Archiving, trashing, stars, labels and read state move back to Gmail only when their sync toggle is on, and you choose those at connect time.

Can several people connect the same Gmail address?

Connect it once as a shared inbox, then give teammates access from Settings, Inboxes, Manage access. Each person uses their own Sektra login; nobody needs the Gmail password.

Why does Sektra say the account did not match?

You signed in with a different Google account than the address you typed. Sign in with the matching account, or correct the address.
